Quad Optical

From Chace Audio

A quad optical sound track includes all four types of theatrical audio playback formats printed directly onto a single film element: analog, Dolby® SR-D, SDDS, and DTS. The audio on a release print recorded with all four formats can be played back in any theater, since all theaters are equipped to utilize one or more of these formats. Theatrical audio systems offering playback of any of the digital formats (Dolby SR-D, SDDS, and DTS) use the analog track as a backup in case the digital playback fails.
