Phantom Center

From Chace Audio

A "phantom center" is the perceived center image when mono coincident material is played through two speakers. When the listener is in the sweet spot, directly between the left and the right speakers, mono material will appear as if it is originating from a point in space between the two speakers. Moving outside the sweet spot, the phantom center image disappears, and the mono material moves to whichever speaker the listener is favoring.
