MOS

From Chace Audio

A standard motion picture term used to indicate that there is no sound related to a film element. For example, a production company will note "MOS" on their production logs for any shots that are picture only.

Various theories about the origin of MOS and what it actually stands for abound, including "Motor Only Shot" (film camera motor), and the ever popular "Mit Out Sound," which was believed to be the broken-English phrasing that an immigrant German Director might have used on set. The latter is generally thought to be urban legend by film historians, but is still commonly accepted.
