Hard Disk Recorder

From Chace Audio

A hard disk recorder is an audio multi-track recorder that stores digital audio on a hard disk drive. Hard disk recorders are the digital evolution of multi-track tape machines and film dubbers. Tascam's MMR8, for example, is designed to emulate the transport and interface of a mag film dubber, in an effort to gain acceptance in the feature film mixing environment.

There are hard disk recorders that have been designed to fit into the production audio environment as well. There are many brands of hard disk recorders. Most are designed to record file formats (WAV and AIFF for example) that are compatible with the more prominent digital audio workstations (DAWs). Most hard disk recorders can store digital audio on an external or removable drive to facilitate the transport and transfer of the audio.
