Foot Out

A reel of film or audiotape is considered foot out (also known as tails out) when it is wrapped around a core with its end or foot on the outside of the reel.

Storing analog tapes "foot out" is preferred to heads out because in the event of print through, "foot out" will result in a post echo, which is much less noticeable than pre-echo, which is what you get when stored heads out.
