Frequency modulation sync (or FM sync), is a synchronization pulse that sits around 11kHz. FM sync is typically found on 1/4" audiotapes, but it can also be found on 1/2" audiotapes. It is recorded into the audio soundtrack itself and must be filtered out for the best possible clarity. The 11kHz tone must then be converted to a 60Hz pulse for proper synchronization with an external speed resolving unit, such as a Lynx. This will ensure that the tape is being played back at the proper speed without drift. |
