Decode

Always preceded by an encode, encode/decode schemes apply to many processes in professional audio, all working towards the goal of temporarily transforming (encoding) a source (sound or picture) to facilitate it's transfer, delivery, or migration, so that it can be returned to it's original source state (decoded). Any type of decoding must only be applied to something that has been appropriately encoded first.

Encode/decode schemes are utilized in noise reduction, digital audio, data compression (AC-3), and stereo matrixing (i.e. Dolby® Stereo LCRS to Lt/Rt, back to LCRS).
