House Sync

(Redirected From Black)

From Chace Audio

House sync (house black or black-burst) is a timing/speed reference that runs throughout a post-production facility to ensure all machines and equipment are operating at the same speed. If two machines working in tandem are not running at the same speed, sync issues can arise as well as audible clocking error anomalies.

House sync generators could be based on: NTSC or PAL (standard definition), a bi-level signal, high definition, or a tri-level synchronization signal used to allow for frame-accurate synchronization between machines. To ensure that a track is playing back at the intended rate, a sync reference must also be present on the audio source (time code, Rangertone™ Sync, etc.).
