Bias

Bias is a very high frequency signal that is incorporated in the recording of any magnetic medium. Magnetic recording equipment generates a bias current that is required to enable the magnetic oxide to record the audio portion of a signal - somewhat like an audio catalyst. The signal generated from the bias current is recorded along with the audio program onto the magnetic medium, but its frequency is so high that it is beyond the range of human hearing.
