AIFF File

(Redirected From Audio Interchange File Format)

From Chace Audio

AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) is an audio file format for storing audio/sound data on computers and other devices. Co-developed by Apple Computers, AIFF is often associated with the Apple Macintosh platform. For a long time, WAV/BWF (WAVE and Broadcast Wave) files were associated with Windows computers as a counterpart to Apple Macintosh's AIFF format, but both formats are cross compatible.

AIFF audio is uncompressed and lossless as opposed to heavily compressed audio file formats such as MP3. Because of this, AIFF uses much more disk space than compressed formats - about 10MB for one minute of 16-bit, 44.1kHz stereo audio.

AIFF is a leading format (along with SDII and WAV) for use by professional audio and video applications.
