Fade

A fade is the gradual increase or decrease in the volume of a program. Many television shows fade to and from "blacks" in and out of commercial breaks. A fade is also commonly used as a way to end a pre-recorded song.

Sometimes it IS better to simply fade away than to die in a blaze of glory.
