Dolby® Digital Plus

(Redirected From E-AC-3)

From Chace Audio

Dolby® Digital Plus, also known as “DD+” or “E-AC-3,” is a digital audio compression scheme developed specifically for the introduction of HDTV and Blu-ray Disc®. It's essentially an extension of the capabilities of Dolby Digital (AC-3). While legacy Dolby Digital (AC-3) supports up to five full-range audio channels and one band-limited LFE channel, E-AC-3 supports up to eight channels for 7.1 playback. DD+ also streams audio at a much higher variable bit rate - up from 640kbps (AC-3) to 6Mbps (DD+) – resulting in much higher audio quality while maintaining a relatively low amount of data. Dolby Digital Plus streams also output a standard Dolby Digital (AC-3) signal for playback on existing Dolby Digital systems.
